Flooring Calculator
Measure once. Buy the right amount.
Planning new flooring? Calculate your room area, add extra material for cuts and waste, and estimate how many boxes you’ll need and what they’ll cost.
๐ Enter your room measurements
๐ก For rooms with different dimensions, calculate each room separately and combine the results. A 10% allowance is a common starting point, but patterns, angled cuts and room shapes may require more.
๐ฆ Flooring package details
Enter the coverage and price shown on the flooring package. Box coverage is entered in square feet, even when your room measurements use metres. Changing currency only changes the label, not the price.
โ๏ธ How the estimate works
The calculator multiplies room length by width and the number of identical rooms, adds your waste allowance, then rounds the number of boxes up to the next whole box.
๐ง How to calculate flooring materials
Measure the length and width of your room and multiply them to find the floor area. For example, a room measuring 15 feet by 12 feet has an area of 180 square feet.
Next, add a waste allowance to account for cuts and installation. Divide the adjusted area by the coverage per box, then round up to a whole number of boxes.
๐งฎ Example: Flooring a 15 ร 12 ft room
A 15 ร 12 ft room contains 180 sq ft. Adding 10% extra material gives 198 sq ft.
If each box covers 20 sq ft, you need 9.9 boxes. Since flooring is sold in whole boxes, round up to 10 boxes.
At $65 per box, the estimated material cost is $650 before taxes and other expenses.
