🎯 Calculate your final grade
💡 Your current grade should be the average on work already graded, normalized to 100%. For example, if your current average is 78% and your final exam is worth 30%, enter 78 and 30.
⚙️ How the calculator works
The calculator assumes your current grade represents all completed coursework and the remaining assessment makes up the rest of the final course grade.
If several assignments remain, the calculated required grade represents the weighted average you need across all remaining work. It assumes grades are between 0% and 100%, without bonus marks or special grading rules.
🧠 How to calculate the grade you need
Most courses use weighted grades. Your completed assignments contribute part of your final mark, while your remaining exam or coursework contributes the rest.
Use weights as decimals in the formula. For example, a 30% final exam has a weight of 0.30, and completed coursework has a weight of 0.70.
🧮 Example: What do you need on your final exam?
Suppose your current average is 78%, your final exam is worth 30%, and you want an overall course grade of 80%.
Your completed coursework contributes 78 × 0.70 = 54.6 percentage points.
You need another 25.4 percentage points from the final exam. Divide 25.4 by 0.30 to get approximately 84.67%.
📊 How to calculate your final grade
If you already know or want to estimate your final exam score, use the Final Grade Estimate mode.
For example, a current grade of 78% with 70% of the course completed, plus an exam grade of 85% worth 30%, produces a final grade of 80.1%.
💡 Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on your current average and how much the final exam is worth. Enter those values along with your 80% target to calculate the required exam grade.
Under a standard 0–100% grading system, the target is not achievable through the remaining assessment alone. Extra credit, grade adjustments or special course rules may change the outcome.
Each assignment or exam contributes to your final grade according to its assigned weight. A final exam worth 30% contributes 30% of the overall course grade.
Possibly. The calculator shows the maximum final grade you could achieve by scoring 100% on the remaining work. Compare that result with your course’s passing requirement.
Yes, provided the course uses weighted percentage grades. Check your syllabus for special requirements, minimum exam scores and rounding rules.
